|---|---|
| Landed cost | Supplier price + supplier shipping + (supplier price x duty %) |

| Fees | Platform fee + payment fee + fixed fee + listing fee, each as a % of revenue or a fixed amount, whichever you choose |

| ROI % | Profit / (landed cost + ads + other costs) x 100 |
| Break-even price | The selling price where profit is exactly zero |
Worked examples
eBay + AliExpress: supplier price 8.00, shipping 2.00, selling price 24.99 with free shipping, eBay fees of 13.6% plus 0.40 per order. Revenue 24.99, landed cost 10.00, fees 3.80, profit about 11.19, margin about 44.8%, ROI about 111.9% before ads.
Etsy + AliExpress: supplier price 6.00, shipping 1.50, selling price 19.00 plus 4.00 shipping charged, fees of 6.5% transaction and 3% processing plus 0.25 processing and a 0.20 listing fee. Revenue 23.00, landed cost 7.50, fees 2.64, profit about 12.87 before ads and shipping you pay.
Marketplace fees to include
Include the final value or transaction fee, payment processing, listing fee and any promoted listing or ad cost. Rates change by country, category and seller level, so use the presets as a starting point and confirm them on the platform before you price.
Default presets (US rates checked October 2026): eBay 13.6% final value fee on item plus shipping and 0.40 per order (0.30 on orders of 10 or less). Etsy 6.5% transaction fee on item plus shipping, 3% + 0.25 payment processing and a 0.20 listing fee. Amazon, Shopify and Walmart use common example rates. All values are editable.
How to pick winning products
- Demand: check sold listings and search interest, not only active listings.
- Margin: aim for healthy margin after fees, ads and returns.
- Competition: avoid products where many sellers race to the lowest price.
- Shipping time: long delivery means more complaints and refunds.
- Risk: avoid branded, counterfeit, fragile or restricted items.
- Test small: list a few units first and mark the product Testing in the tracker.
Common product research mistakes
- Ignoring fees, ads and returns when judging profit.
- Mixing up margin and markup.
- Choosing products with low price and thin margin.
- Forgetting import duty, VAT or shipping to the customer.
- Not keeping a backup of the sheet.

What is a product hunting sheet?
A product hunting sheet, also called a product research sheet or product research spreadsheet, is a table where you list every product you find, save the supplier and marketplace links and compare the real numbers before you buy stock. Instead of guessing, you see the profit, margin and ROI of each product in one place and mark it as Researching, Testing, Winner or Dropped.
This free sheet is built for dropshipping product research on eBay, Etsy, Amazon, Shopify and Walmart. It works like Excel: click a cell and type, paste a block of rows from Excel or Google Sheets, press Enter to move down and drag column borders to resize.
Best columns for a dropshipping product research spreadsheet
- Product name and links: the supplier link and your listing link, so you can open both in one click.
- Landed cost: supplier price, supplier shipping and duty or tax.
- Selling side: selling price and the shipping you charge the buyer.
- Fees: platform fee, payment fee, fixed fee and listing fee, each as a percentage or a fixed amount.
- Extra costs: ads per sale and other costs.
- Tracking: quantity, status and notes.
- Results: profit per sale, margin, ROI, break-even price and total profit.
How to find winning products for eBay, Etsy and Amazon
- Search sold listings and filter by sold items to see what really sells, not just what is listed.
- Look for products with steady demand and a clear gap between supplier price and selling price.
- Prefer small, light items that are cheap to ship and rarely returned.
- Check that the supplier has stock and a reliable delivery time.
- Add every product to the sheet and enter all costs before you list.
- Test two or three products with small quantities, then keep the Winners and drop the rest.
Product hunting sheet vs Excel and Google Sheets template
A blank product research template in Excel or Google Sheets needs formulas you must build and fix yourself. This sheet already has them, and you can still export to Excel or CSV and open the file in Excel or Google Sheets whenever you want.
| Feature | This product hunting sheet | Blank template |
|---|---|---|
| Profit, margin, ROI formulas | Built in | You write them |
| Fee presets for eBay, Etsy, Amazon | Yes, editable | No |
| Percent or amount per fee | One tap | Edit formulas |
| Break-even price and ROAS | Automatic | Manual |
| Undo, redo and auto-save | Yes | Depends |
| Excel and CSV export | Yes | Native |
Product hunting for beginners: a simple step-by-step plan
Product hunting means searching for products that are worth selling online and checking the numbers before you buy stock. A good hunt answers three questions: do people buy it, can I source it cheaply and can I still make a healthy profit after every fee? Follow this simple plan with the free product hunting sheet.
- Pick one marketplace first, such as eBay or Etsy, and choose your selling model in the sheet.
- Collect 10 to 30 product ideas from sold listings, best-seller lists and supplier catalogues.
- Add each idea as a row with its supplier link and listing link.
- Enter supplier price, shipping, selling price and fees and read the profit, margin and ROI.
- Keep the products with a healthy margin and mark them Testing.
- List the best ones, set the listed date and let the sheet lock them so your records stay safe.
Free product hunting tools: what to look for
Many sellers search for a free product hunting tool, but a good one should do more than store links. Look for automatic profit, margin and ROI, correct marketplace fee presets that you can edit, break-even price, a way to track status and listing dates, export to Excel or CSV and a layout that works on a phone. Our sheet includes all of these and is free to use in your browser with no signup. Paid research tools can add sales estimates and trend data, so many sellers combine one of them with a sheet like this to make the final decision.
Lock listed products so your data stays safe
Once a product is live, its numbers should not change by accident. The sheet therefore locks a product automatically the first time you set its Listed date. You can also lock any other product yourself with the padlock icon in its row. Locked products cannot be edited or deleted, and Clear sheet keeps them.
- Colours: green means listed, grey means locked and teal means listed and locked, so you can read your whole sheet at a glance.
- Unlock on a laptop: click the locked row and press Alt + L. A tip appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Unlock on a phone: double-tap the locked product card.
USD, PKR and live exchange rates
Marketplaces such as eBay and Etsy charge their fees in US dollars, but many sellers think in Pakistani rupees, pounds, euros or dirhams. Change the currency selector and every money amount in your sheet is converted with a live exchange rate, including fixed amounts such as the 0.20 Etsy listing fee. Percentages stay unchanged because they do not depend on currency. The rate shown next to the selector is a market rate, so your bank, Payoneer or card may use a slightly different one. If you receive payouts in another currency, add the conversion cost to Other costs for a realistic margin.
Advanced insights: break-even ROAS and target-margin pricing
Below the table, the Advanced insights panel turns your rows into decisions. It shows total revenue, total costs, total profit, blended margin and portfolio ROI, plus a count of products in each status.
Break-even price
The lowest selling price that still covers landed cost, platform fee, payment fee, fixed fee, listing fee, ads and other costs. Never list below it.
Price for your target margin
Enter a target margin such as 30% and the tracker shows the selling price each product needs to reach it, using the fees and units you chose for that sheet.
Max ad cost per sale and break-even ROAS
Max ad cost is the profit left before ads. Break-even ROAS is revenue divided by that profit: if your ads return less revenue per dollar than this number, the product loses money.
Product research checklist
- Confirm the supplier has stable stock and a realistic delivery time.
- Check sold listings or reviews to see real demand.
- Enter every cost, including shipping, duty, ads and payment fees.
- Use the break-even price to make sure you can price competitively.
- Aim for a healthy margin, not just a positive profit.
- Test with a small quantity and set the status to Testing.
- Mark proven products as Winner and drop the rest.
Organise your research with sheet names, search and sorting
Give every sheet a clear name such as Kitchen gadgets - October. The name is used for the printed title and for the file name when you export CSV, Excel or JSON. Use search and the status filter to find products quickly, sort rows by profit, margin or ROI, and drag the dotted handle on any heading to reorder columns. Press Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y to undo and redo. Need more numbers? Try the profit margin and markup calculator, the payment fee calculator or the discount calculator.
Tracker features
- AI assistant: a free chat assistant adds formula columns, edits the sheet, answers questions about your products and points you to the right tool.
- Excel-style editing: paste rows from Excel or Google Sheets, move with Enter and arrow keys, resize columns and open links with one click.
- Lock products: listed products lock automatically, any product can be locked, and locked rows have their own colours. Unlock with Alt + L or a double-tap.
- Live currency conversion: switch between USD, PKR, GBP, EUR, AED, INR, CAD and AUD and every amount converts with a live rate.
- Date tracking: every product records when it was added and last edited, and you pick the date it was listed. Listed products turn green with a tick so they stand out, and you can filter listed or not listed.
- Sheet name: name every sheet; the name is used for exports and printing.
- Drag and drop columns: reorder any column, on mobile with the Columns button.
- Search, filter and sort: find products by name or status and sort by profit, margin or ROI.
- Advanced insights: total profit, portfolio ROI, target-margin prices and break-even ROAS.
- Print: a clean printout of your sheet.
- Percent or amount: tap % or the currency sign above any fee column (duty, platform, payment, fixed, listing, ads, other) and the calculation follows your choice.
- Editable columns: rename any heading, delete columns you do not need and add your own text or number columns.
- Undo and redo: step back through your last 50 changes, including a cleared sheet.
- Status tracking: mark products as Researching, Testing, Winner or Dropped.
- Export and import: CSV, Excel and JSON backup, all private in your browser.
- Works everywhere: a full table on desktop and one card per product on phones.
AI assistant for your product research sheet
The tracker has a built-in, free AI assistant. Press Ask AI, describe what you want in English, Roman Urdu or Urdu, and it changes the sheet for you or answers your question. It knows your columns, your selling model, your currency and a short summary of your products, so you do not have to explain your sheet each time.
What you can ask the AI assistant
- Add a formula column: "Add a column called eBay Fee. It is 0.30 if the selling price is 10 or less, otherwise 0.40, and subtract it from profit." The fee is calculated for every row and profit, margin, ROI and break-even price update.
- Combine columns: "Add a column that multiplies profit by qty and divides it by landed cost." If a detail is missing, the assistant asks before it changes anything.
- Edit the sheet: rename or remove a column, fill a value in every row, add rows or switch a fee between percent and a fixed amount.
- Ask about your products: "Which product has the best margin?" or "Which products are losing money?"
- Learn: ask what ROI, break-even price or ROAS means, or how to find winning products.
Other tools in one tap
If your question is better solved by another tool, such as the AI eBay listing generator, the payment fee calculator or the profit margin calculator, the assistant says so and shows a button that opens it.
AI assistant limits, safety and privacy
You get 20 free AI messages per day in each browser and the counter shows what is left. The assistant only talks about this website, so it declines unrelated questions. It cannot run code or touch the page: it can only ask for a fixed set of safe sheet changes, every formula is checked before it is used, and Undo changes (or Ctrl+Z) reverses them. Your sheet stays in your browser. Only your message, your column names and a short numeric summary of up to 30 products are sent, and product links and notes are never sent.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate dropshipping profit?
Add your supplier price, supplier shipping and any import duty to get landed cost. Then subtract landed cost, platform fees, payment fees, ads and other costs from your selling price plus shipping charged. The tracker does this for every row automatically.
What is a good profit margin for dropshipping?
Many sellers aim for roughly 20% to 40% net margin after fees and ads, but it depends on the product and competition. Low-priced items with low margins are risky because one return or ad click can wipe out the profit.
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Markup is profit divided by cost. Margin is profit divided by the selling price. A 50% markup is a 33% margin. The tracker shows margin and ROI so you can price correctly.
Is dropshipping from AliExpress to eBay allowed?
Rules change and differ by marketplace and country. Always read eBay's current dropshipping and seller policies, avoid branded or restricted items and check supplier delivery times before listing.
Does this tool pull prices from AliExpress, eBay or Amazon?
No. It does not scrape or connect to any marketplace. You paste product links for reference and type the prices yourself, which keeps the tool simple, private and within marketplace rules.
Is my data saved if I refresh the page?
Yes. Every change is saved automatically in your browser, so a refresh or closing the tab keeps your sheet. Clearing browser data or switching device removes it, so export a JSON backup regularly.
How do I move my sheet to another device?
Click Backup JSON, send the file to the other device and use Import there. You can also export CSV or Excel.
Can I import my own spreadsheet?
Yes. Import a CSV or Excel file. Columns with matching names are filled automatically and unknown columns are added as custom columns.
Can I add, rename or delete columns?
Yes. Add custom text or number columns, rename any heading and delete the columns you do not need. You can also ask the AI assistant to add formula columns.
Which platforms are supported?
Presets exist for eBay, Etsy, Amazon, Shopify and Walmart, and you can set your own fees for any other platform.
Are the fee presets accurate?
They are common example defaults only. Fees change by country, category and seller level, so check the platform's current fees and edit the numbers.
What is ROI and how is it calculated?
ROI is profit divided by what you spend (landed cost plus ads and other costs), shown as a percentage.
How do I find the right selling price?
Use the price calculator. Enter your landed cost, fees and the margin you want and it returns the price to list at.
Does the tracker work on a phone?
Yes. On small screens each product shows as a card, and you can export or share the sheet from your phone.
Is this product research tracker free?
Yes, it is free with no signup. Your sheet is stored only in your browser. If you use the optional AI assistant, your message, column names and a short numeric summary of your products are sent to answer your request.
How do Undo and Redo work?
Undo and Redo step back and forward through your last 50 changes, including deleted rows, renamed columns and a cleared sheet.
Can I clear the whole sheet?
Yes. Clear sheet removes every product on the current sheet after a confirmation, and Undo brings them back.
Can a fee be a percentage or a fixed amount?
Yes. Above each fee column (duty, platform fee, payment fee, fixed fee, listing fee, ads and other costs) tap % or the currency sign. The profit, margin, ROI and break-even price update to match.
What is break-even ROAS and how is it calculated?
Break-even ROAS is revenue divided by the profit you make before ad costs. If your advertising returns less revenue per dollar spent than this number, the product loses money. The Advanced insights panel calculates it for every product.
How do I price a product for a target margin?
Enter your target margin in the Advanced insights panel. The tracker shows the selling price each product needs to reach it, using your costs, fees and the percent or amount choice for each fee.
How do I move or reorder columns?
Drag the dotted handle on a column heading and drop it where you want it. On a phone or tablet, tap Columns and use the up and down buttons.
Can I search, filter and sort my products?
Yes. Search by name, filter by status and sort rows by profit, margin, ROI or name above the table.
Can I print my research sheet?
Yes. Press Print above the table for a clean printout with your sheet name as the title.
What is a product hunting sheet?
A product hunting sheet is a table where you list products, save supplier and listing links and compare profit, margin and ROI before you buy stock. This free tool works like Excel and calculates the numbers for you.
Is there a free product research template for Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Use this sheet online, then press Export Excel or Export CSV and open the file in Excel or import it into Google Sheets. You can also paste rows copied from Excel or Google Sheets straight into the sheet.
How do I find winning products for dropshipping?
Check sold listings for real demand, look for a healthy gap between supplier price and selling price, choose small light items and confirm supplier stock. Add each candidate to the sheet, enter every cost and keep only products with a good margin.
What profit margin is good for dropshipping?
Many sellers aim for at least 20 percent margin after all fees and ads, but it depends on your category and volume. Enter a target margin in Advanced insights to see the selling price each product needs.
How many products should I track in the sheet?
There is no limit. Many sellers shortlist 10 to 30 products, test three to five of them and mark the best as Winner. Use search, status filter and sorting to stay organised.
Does the product hunting sheet work on mobile?
Yes. On a phone every product becomes a compact card with profit, margin and status, and you tap it to edit the full details.

Click the padlock icon in the product row. A product is also locked automatically the first time you set its Listed date. Locked products cannot be edited or deleted.
How do I unlock a locked product?
On a laptop click the locked row and press Alt + L (Option + L on a Mac). On a phone double-tap the locked product card. A tip at the bottom of the screen reminds you.
What do the green, grey and teal rows mean?
Green rows are listed products, grey rows are locked products and teal rows are listed and locked. The colours make it easy to see the status of every product at a glance.
Can I use the product hunting sheet in PKR?
Yes. Choose PKR in the currency selector and every money amount converts using a live exchange rate, including fixed fees such as the Etsy listing fee. Choose USD again to convert back.
Which exchange rate does the sheet use?
It uses a live market exchange rate from a free rates service and shows it next to the currency selector. Your bank or payout service may use a slightly different rate, so allow for conversion costs in Other costs.
Does the product research tracker have an AI assistant?
Yes. Press Ask AI to open a free AI assistant. It adds, edits and removes columns, fills values, answers questions about your products and points you to other Asaan Tools Pro tools. You can write in English, Roman Urdu or Urdu.
Can the AI add a custom formula column to my product sheet?
Yes. Describe the column in plain words, for example an eBay fee column that is 0.30 when the selling price is 10 or less and 0.40 above 10. The assistant builds a safe formula column and can subtract it from your profit automatically. If a detail is missing it asks you first, and Undo changes reverses it.
How many AI messages can I send per day?
Each browser can send 20 AI messages per day for free. The counter in the assistant shows how many are left and it resets the next day.
Is my data safe when I use the AI assistant?
Your sheet stays in your browser. When you send a message, the assistant receives your message, your column names and a short numeric summary of up to 30 products. Product links and notes are never sent. The assistant cannot run code and can only make a fixed set of safe sheet changes.
What can the AI assistant not do?
It only answers about this website: your sheet, product research and profit maths, and which Asaan Tools Pro tool fits a job. It politely declines unrelated questions.
